Short answer: A side USB-C port does not automatically make a vape safer than a bottom-mounted port. The device’s circuitry, condition and charging practices matter. Follow manufacturer instructions for the exact model.

Use safer charging practices
- Charge on a clean, flat surface where you can see the device.
- Keep it away from bedding and other flammable materials.
- Avoid direct sun, hot cars and extreme temperatures.
- Stop charging a damaged, swollen, leaking or unusually hot device.
These steps follow the FDA battery guidance. The previous claim that side placement by itself prevents charging hazards was unsupported. See our USB-C and battery display guide for common indicators.
Frequently asked questions
Is charging upright always safer?
Use the maker’s instructions and a clean, stable, flat surface. Orientation alone does not prove safety.
