Why Does a Disposable Vape Taste Burnt After a Few Puffs?

Short answer: A burnt taste can occur when a wick is dry, the liquid is depleted or the device has a fault. Stop using it if the taste persists, the device overheats or it leaks. Do not open a sealed disposable device to repair it.

Simple checks that do not require disassembly

  1. Pause use and let the device cool to room temperature. Repeated draws can outpace a wick’s ability to absorb liquid.
  2. Check whether the product is visibly damaged or leaking. If so, stop use.
  3. If it is a rechargeable model, follow the manufacturer’s charging instructions only if the device is otherwise undamaged.
  4. If the problem began immediately after purchase, keep the packaging and contact the seller or manufacturer about their support policy.

Do not insert tools into the mouthpiece or airflow path, heat the device, puncture it or attempt to refill a sealed unit. Our packaging and support checklist explains what to record when seeking assistance.

When to stop

A strongly burnt taste, smoke, swelling, unusual heat or a damaged battery is a reason to stop using or charging the device. The FDA gives battery safety precautions, and the EPA explains disposal through household hazardous waste collection.
